Supreme Court to announce verdict in contempt case against additional registrar

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan is set to announce its verdict tomorrow in the contempt of court case involving Additional Registrar Nazar Abbas. The case stems from allegations that the registrar failed to schedule a hearing for a case regarding the powers of constitutional and regular benches, which led to concerns about the incorrect assignment of cases.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, had previously reserved its decision following the contempt proceedings. The central issue revolves around the improper allocation of cases by Additional Registrar Abbas, who assigned matters intended for the constitutional bench to a regular bench, potentially affecting the court’s procedural integrity.
The contempt case was initiated after the registrar allegedly neglected to fix a hearing for a significant case that directly related to the authority and jurisdiction of the constitutional and regular benches. The matter was heard by the regular bench, led by Justices Shah and Abbasi.
Tomorrow’s verdict will determine the legal consequences for the additional registrar in connection with this misconduct, as the judiciary continues to emphasise the importance of proper case assignments and upholding the court’s protocols.
